Why You Should Do Yoga

yoga benefits warrior goddessI’m still reeling in the awesomeness of practising yoga intensely for the last few months. The way yoga benefits me and my life is nothing short of magic!

I’ve just finished the last yoga retreat of the year.  While the group had left a chilly autumn behind in the UK, the first half of our week, at least, was still beautifully hot. Towards the end of the week, we all noticed how much cooler it was to practise outside until the sun came up.  Autumn is definitely on its way.

Magical Yoga Benefits

Leading a retreat is also a time when I appreciate the amazing benefits yoga has on my life. Not only has my practice been super regular in preparing for retreats, I’ve stepped out of my usual routine, incorporating as many different poses, sequences and other yoga practices as possible.

My body confidence is at an all-time high. My clothes have a little room to breathe. I feel toned.

I haven’t weighed or measured myself for years. I’ve been clean of that addiction for a long time.

But physically I know I’m pretty healthy in a sustainable and non-striving way.

Aside from the physical yoga benefits, this summer has brought up some emotional challenges which have helped me to evolve into a more confident, forgiving and compassionate human being. I listen more, judge less and let things go just a little sooner than I did last year.

This is yoga in life practice. I feel more connected now than ever before.

I realise lately, that I can see the struggle in people who do some of the most hurtful things to others. I’m able to find some wisdom in every situation and in everyone I meet. Instead of feeling hurt or angry, I relieve myself of my part in that which doesn’t concern me.

Yes, I know there’s a lot of awful stuff going on in the world, and I’m not trying to ignore it. But I’m choosing to care for myself first so that I have the energy to thrive in my life, for everyone I meet and the rest of the world as a whole.

Yoga is such a lifeline that I can honestly feel the drudgery of life’s poo when I don’t practice.

How to Get Your Own Yoga Benefits

It doesn’t always have to be asana.

A mindful, meditative walk in nature also fills my cup. So does listening to a spiritual teacher and writing about the messages, or incorporating some yoga philosophy into my day.  One thing I can tell you is that I wouldn’t have found my own BodyMAGIC! without yoga. How can we ever find peace with

1. our body 2. in our emotions or 3. in our soul

if we don’t connect with them in some way?  Yoga works on all three. Beautifully.

Well, most types of yoga do.  If you aren’t getting all those benefits and are already practising yoga or you’re looking to start, make sure you choose a holistic practice – for your body, mind and your soul.

As a reader who eats emotionally or binge eats, you know that you haven’t always eaten consciously and fed yourself the stuff that raises your health. Emotions are the drivers. Your body is not at fault. So it deserves some loving kindness.

Yoga does that.

Your soul needs some attention too so that you can move from one phase of your life to a brilliant other.

Yoga does this too!
